The best way we can describe it is like a really fast hole punch. Within the metal guard, the tool oscillates up and down and in doing so pinches away at the material bit by bit, depositing it into a dust collection tray.

We were inspired by the way that sheet metal cutters work when we created our ChompSaw! However, we did design this cutting tool ourselves to be more suitable for cardboard and safer for kids. It is a different tool.
Because of these differences, the ChompSaw should not be used for cutting metal.

Yes! We want to make absolutely sure we've done everything we can to make this safe. As of September 2024, we have conducted and passed safety testing with our ChompSaw for multiple certifications. These include the ASTEM F963-11 and Children's Product Certificate (CPC).

Yes, it will be replaceable, and we will offer replacement parts! We used our first prototype cutting part for over a year with no noticeable change in cut quality. We are making sure that is the case in our final version as well, so that you won't have to replace it too often!

Our ChompSaw should work on material up to 2.5mm without any issue, and potentially up to 3mm depending on the material. This thickness should support a variety of single-ply cardboard. Thicker cardboard may need to be flattened down a little bit wherever your cut lines are!

The ChompSaw was designed for cardboard. The device should be able to handle most things thinner and softer than < 3mm thick cardboard, but we have done extensive usability and lifecycle testing on cardboard only. Especially with harder materials, we cannot guarantee the longevity of the tool. If you decide to experiment with materials, we will offer a replacement cutting head so that you don’t need to buy a whole new device if it begins to show signs of wear.
With that said, do not attempt to cut metal with the ChompSaw. While the cutting tool is designed similarly to some sheet-metal tools, the design that optimizes ChompSaw for cardboard makes it unsafe to use on metallic materials.

We don’t have the exact weights for the final product yet, but have been working with the manufacturer to get tighter estimates. The following are the estimates based on the latest prototypes:
- ChompSaw: About 2.3kg (about 5 lbs)
- ChompSaw + Power Supply/Cable: 2.5kg (about 5.5 lbs)
- ChompSaw + Power Supply/Cable + Packaging: 3.21kg (about 7 lbs)

We're shipping! New orders are currently expected to ship in late November of 2024. Right now, we're on track to have all existing preorders delivered by early December!

Our ChompSaw is currently for pre-order in North America only. There are quite a few logistics to figure out regarding toy safety requirements in each country and voltage regulations. We're working to broaden our reach so stay tuned for updates!

If you pre-ordered a ChompSaw on our website through Shopify, you will be able to change your address from your confirmation email as long as the product has not shipped out yet.
- Locate your order confirmation email or text, which should contain a link to the order confirmation page.
- On the order confirmation page, if prompted to log in to see the full order details, enter your email address tied to the order and your order number. Order number can be found in the original confirmation email or text.
- After logging in, click “Update Shipping Address”
- Enter your new address details, then click “Save”

Yes! The prototype featured in our Kickstarter video was created using 3D printing, laser cutting, and hand assembly processes by us, but backers will receive the manufactured version.

We've started shipping! The earliest of our Kickstarter backers should be getting their rewards here soon, and all other orders will be sent out in late November!
We had to delay our initial Kickstarter shipping timeline for a number of reasons, summed up in our backer updates here and here.We are doing everything we can to prevent further delays, so keep up with the Kickstarter Updates and Product Updates to see the latest project developments!

Unfortunately we can’t offer full refunds and pledge cancellations for Kickstarter or BackerKit pledges because we have already locked pledges and begun working with manufacturing partners to bring the project to life. You can read the Kickstarter policies about refunds for more information. If you still need to cancel your pledge, you can reach out to us for support at hello@chompshop.com.

Since pledges have now been locked, the only way to buy a new ChompSaw or accessory is to purchase it separately on our website.
Refunds & Returns

You can cancel your pre-order as long as it was placed through Shopify, and as long as the item has not yet shipped. You can do this yourself from the order confirmation email or text, following the below steps:
- Locate your order confirmation email or text, which should contain a link to the order confirmation page.
- On the order confirmation page, if prompted to log in to see the full order details, enter your email address tied to the order and your order number. Order number can be found in the original confirmation email or text.
- After logging in, click “Cancel order now”
- Follow the prompts to complete cancellation process.
Refunds will process to your original payment method. If you have any issues with this process, reach out to hello@chompshop.com for support.

Unopened, Unused Product Returns (Change of Mind): If you have not opened or used your ChompSaw and wish to return it within 14 days of receiving it, we’re happy to accept the return.
Opened, Used Product Returns (Defective Product): If you’ve opened and used your ChompSaw and are experiencing issues, please contact us. We’ll assign your case to one of our engineers who will work with you to diagnose and do their best to resolve the problem remotely before further steps are taken.
