Now Certified for Ages 3+

Now Certified for Ages 3+

We've put our ChompSaw through all sorts of safety tests to make sure our machine is 100% kid-friendly. For the last while, we could only recommend the ChompSaw for kids ages 5 and up... until now!

We just completed another recertification process, and it’s official - the ChompSaw is now certified safe for kids ages 3 and up! This means the same tool your family knows and loves is now cleared for even more little hands to safely join in on the fun. So if there’s a younger sibling, cousin, or neighbor who’s been wanting to build alongside the big kids, they’re officially good to go!

Wait - another REcertificaiton process?

That’s right - if you’ve been following along since our early days, you might remember that while we wanted our ChompSaw to be for kids ages “5-99,” the ChompSaw was originally certified only for kids ages 8 and up. After our Kickstarter campaign, we were moving fast to get products into your hands, and we had a high level of confidence that the testing agency would award us with the 8+ certification. We were worried that seeking a younger age certification would delay us even further (we remember how long you waited for your ChompSaws and we are so grateful for your patience!).

Here’s the thing - we noticed that all of YOU were buying ChompSaws for your 5-year-olds 🫣. Hey, no shade, but remember how I said the ChompSaw was only certified for kids ages 8 and up? Yeah, that’s on you. But this did prompt us to seek our first recertification for kids ages 5 and up. That was our original goal anyway, but it’s thanks to all of you and your wonderful 5-year-olds that we got the ball rolling!

Then guess what? - we noticed that all of you started buying ChompSaws for your 3- and 4-year-olds 🫣! Not only that, but we also received reports on safety testing in a few international markets*, and the age range was already 3 and up. What?? Turns out these markets don’t distinguish between 3 and 5 the same way the United States and Canada do, so we already met the 3+ standards with our existing tests (plus a few extras unique to these regions).

So back to the testing agency we went with a new form, crossing out the 5 and putting a 3 in its place. They ran the additional tests at the new standards, and mere weeks later we had confirmation - ChompSaw is safe for kids ages 3 and up!

Why certify for 3 and up when the original goal was 5 and up?

Good question. It really all started with our CTO (not me, but my sweet baby boy Milo, our Chief Testing Officer) two years ago. He’s been testing and interacting with the ChompSaw in every form since its inception - from our earliest prototype, where I hovered anytime he go too close to the cutting element, to now, where he’s figured out how to plug it in himself and even source the ideal cardboard (I know, he’s a genius). I noticed a switch flip on in his brain when he turned 3 - he was no longer interested in just shredding cardboard on the ChompSaw, he wanted to make shapes!

They began as abstract blobs that he would declare as something specific, and, with the right head tilt and eye squint, it was obvious that he was right. Not long after, he began drawing his own lines and following them. They are slowly starting to morph into recognizable shapes and, people, this kid is only 4! He has been given a means to take the ideas out of his amazing 3-/4-year-old brain and bring them to life. All we wanted was for more kids to experience this like Milo did (and does), and here we are. This is a huge deal, and we couldn’t be more excited to share this news with you!

*Did you catch that? ChompSaw is going abroad in the coming months - stay tuned for more exciting updates!
