Build Your Own Bird Feeder!

Give the birds in your neighborhood a reason to stop by! This Earth Day, build a real bird feeder from scratch then hang it up and watch who comes to visit. We'll email you a printable PDF pattern you can glue to cardboard, then cut with your ChompSaw and assemble at home. It's a fun building project with a payoff: every time a bird shows up, your inventor can take a little credit!

What's Inside:

  1. Printable patterns

  2. A guide for assembly

  3. Step-by-step video instructions (linked here)

What You'll Need:

  1. Cardboard

  2. String or dental floss (for hanging)

  3. Double-sided tape

  4. Tinfoil

  5. Masking tape

  6. Birdseed

  7. Glue stick

  8. Something to weigh the feeder at the bottom - a glass bottle or a soda can works well here!

Reminders: Choose a spot with some shelter from wind and rain, and hang your feeder somewhere you can see it. Half the fun is watching who shows up! Refill with birdseed as needed and check on it if it rains.

Frequently Asked Questions

Most likely, yes! Our patterns are designed to be printed on standard 8.5x11" printer paper. Just make sure to set your printer to “Fit to Page” (or 100% scale) so everything lines up just right!

Check out our pattern guide to understand what each symbol means!

We color-code our patterns to show what to do with each piece, so printing on color will work best. But if colored ink isn't available to you, just watch each pattern's instruction video to see what to do!

A standard gluestick will work! Make sure to really glue down the edges of each piece for the best results once you're cutting.
